"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Stopping you." came his short reply.
"Why?"
"Because you are essential."
"Because you are essential."
"I suppose that was a compliment. What am I essential to?"
"To the future of the United States."
"I don't understand."
"You know, I really got fed up with you back during the search for the cookie. You never understand anything. You're so...DUMB."
"I don't understand."
"You know, I really got fed up with you back during the search for the cookie. You never understand anything. You're so...DUMB."
"And yet, I am essential to the future of my country..."
"Yes, but it is a dumb country."
"So what are you doing here?"
"Killing you while it's easy. You will die when you try to free Oleck."
"Killing you while it's easy. You will die when you try to free Oleck."
"That's what you hope."
"No, that's what I know." the vicious crook laughed, "I have seen the future."
I caught my breath, then asked, "where did you get the time machine?"
"From Ludwig Einstein."
"From Ludwig Einstein."
"He gave it to you?"
"Well, let's just say I'm borrowing it permanently. I stole his 'new and improved' time machine right after he finished it. Now he'll have to make another one. Ah," he checked his watch, "but now, I must be going."

And he vanished. I thought it prudent to jump somewhere else too, just in case he came back with a machete or something. Now, I only have two days left. And, according to Novikov, my fate is sealed. He said I die trying to save Oleck. My only hope is that he didn't say whether I succeeded in rescuing Oleck before I died. If only I can do that much.
