"You're a genius, sir." the other man said.
The 'hero' laughed, "yes, yes, I know."
"You have all of America fooled, the entire country!"
"Isn't it brilliant? And soon, they will all be under my control." they left the room. You'd understand what this famous person planned to do if I revealed the rest of their conversation, and if you knew who he was.
"Amazing," I said under my breath.
"Only his unexpected death saved this country from certain doom." the scientist nodded.
"Imagine if people knew that today..."
"History was not meant to be analyzed with a fine-toothed comb. Some things are best left unkown and perhaps," he considered, "perhaps unchanged as well."
"So what are your plans?" I asked.
"I've always wanted to see Europe as it progressed throughout the ages. I'm going sight-seeing for the rest of my life."
"I think you've earned the vacation." I smiled at my old companion.
"I think you've earned the vacation." I smiled at my old companion.
"And you're going back to die." the 'mad' scientist said sadly.
"I'll fight my heart out." I assured him.
He nodded, "you know, there are a couple things on my to-do list before I go on my life-long journey."
"What's that?"
"I think I'll get Aleck out of prison to help you at my lab, and then," he nodded, "then I believe I'll come back and help you fight."
"But you could die!"
"Then I'll die fighting next to a brave time-traveler! You go get military supplies and bring them to my lab. I'll take care of Aleck. Our adventure's not over yet!"
