"That guy's amazingly vain..." Peter said in disbelief as we walked out of the amphitheater.
"It's not really him, Ben." Einstein said, "his mind, or at least the rational part, has become trapped within the cookie's preservatives. Only the drive to strike out suffering remains, no matter what the cost. You need to see something now, though."
A second Ludwig Einstein strove confidently past us, heading toward some stairs. The original Einstein ushered us into the elevator and toward the top floor, just in time to see the new one panting from the efforts he had to exert. "I'll be back in a while." the first Einstein whispered, hiding behind the elevator.
"Ben? Aleck? Peter? What are you three doing here?" The new Einstein asked (though I'm pretty sure he was younger), "Oh don't tell me. There's no use now, I've got a mission to complete."
He ducked through some corridors and down some stairs, while we struggled to keep up.
"I hope you know this has to be done." he said, "You may never see Vanderdecken again."
"Exactly what is it that has to be done?" I asked.
"Well, we know the past is safe, because it's already occurred, and we also know he only has 3,000 years before the chemicals wear off." he peered around the corner, only a few yards from where we hid. "You'd better get out of here before I do this." We ran out the exit and straight into the old Einstein.
"Want to see what I did?" he punched coordinates into his machine before we could respond and we found ourselves in the front row of the amphitheater just as Ludwig ran up to Vanderdecken.
"What are you doing here?" VD12 asked.
"Sending you somewhere safe." Einstein smiled triumphantly.
Vanderdecken smiled sadly back as Einstein pressed the fateful button on his machine, "I wished you hadn't tried this."
A small explosion could be seen from where Einstein's time machine used to be, and we watched in horror as Vanderdecken called for guards to arrest him.
"I watched from prison for 15 years as he tore apart this nation." Ludwig said sadly, "and only after then could I escape and build a new machine."
"Why did it explode?" Peter asked.
"Well, Vanderdecken12 had more of his mind with him than I thought, and he thought of the idea of being sent back to the past. So he spent five years inventing a TMD (time machine disruptor) that would destroy anything which tried to reallocate him."
"So it was the only hope," Peter was intrigued, "and he'd already preempted it."
"Yes, that's why it was so disappointing that we didn't know where he was before he invented the TMD. Now," he shrugged, "we don't know what to do...that's why you're here."
