I held my laptop all the way to the prison. I didn't know why they didn't take it away. When we arrived, we went through a metal detector, and they took it away, as well as Peter's iphone, which I didn't know he had, But after we were done checking into the prison, they gave them back.
The guard noticed the confused expression on my face, and smiled, "There is no reason you should be cut off from the outside world just because you are in prison." But the surprises didn't end there. The entire walls were white, with bright lights illuminating it. I can only describe the prison as a giant mansion, in which nobody was put in a cell, but everybody shared a 10X10 room with one other person; in my case, Peter.
We met a man named Jordan soon after we checked in.
"What dya think?" our fellow prisoner asked.
"It's very open," I looked around, "makes you feel free."
"Just another illusion." the man said dejectedly, "Has your laptop run outa juice yet?"
"Not yet."
"Enjoy it while it lasts. Once ya need it charged, they take it and install filters so ya can only look up what they want you t' see."
Peter took out his iPhone, "phones too?"
the man nodded sadly, "they control everything here."
"Thanks for the head's up." I said, as we walked to the privacy of our room.
Peter smiled, "good thing your futuristic laptop charges by stealing energy out of the building's power line."
I couldn't help but smile back. Even if we were trapped, with no way of going back, at least we were able to outsmart them in one respect.
